"Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan. It will be built through concrete achievements which first create a de facto solidarity." This is an excerpt from the Declaration of 9 May 1950, made by Robert Schuman, the then French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"L’Europe ne se fera pas d’un coup, ni dans une construction d’ensemble : elle se fera par des réalisations concrètes créant d’abord des solidarités de fait." Ceci est un extrait de la Déclaration du 9 mai 1950 faite par Robert Schuman, alors ministre des affaires étrangères français.
Why a text is considered as being a corner stone of the European construction? Because it, inter alia, marked the true beginning of the post World-War II period and led to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, the predecessor of the Europen Union.
Pourquoi un tel texte est-il considéré comme pierre angulaire de la construction européenne ? Parce que, entre autres, il a marqué le réel début de période de l'après Seconde Guerre Mondiale et a mené à la création de la Communauté Européenne du Charbon et de l'Acier, le prédécesseur de l'Union Européenne.
