Go ten

Avec ma chère Gabrielle, nous sommes allées hier soir au Go ten, un café aux allures japonisantes. La déco était très sympa; le petit bémol: fumer y est autorisé. Mais là n'est pas le propos. Gabrielle a eu la bonne idée de prendre une "fleur" de thé. Regardez plutôt, c'est le printemps dans votre tasse:

Go Ten bar & café; 10 rue du Marché-aux-Herbes; L- 1728 Luxembourg

Bredele

Pour réaliser vos bredele au beurre (petits biscuits alsaciens), vous aurez besoin de:

ingrédients:
500 gr. de farine
250 gr. de sucre
250 gr. de beurre
1 sachet de sucre vanillé
2 oeufs
1 jaune d'oeuf

ustensiles:
un rouleau
des emporte pièces
un saladier
une plaque de four
un pinceau (pour étaler le jaune d'oeuf)

La réalisation est assez simple. Mélanger d'abord les 2 œufs, le sucre, le sucre vanillé et le beurre. Une fois que vous obtenez une pâte lisse, incorporez peu à peu la farine. Laisser votre mélange ainsi obtenu reposer au moins 3 heures au réfrigérateur. Puis, ressortez la pâte et étalez là à l'aide du rouleau. Avec les emporte-pièces obtenez les formes que vous voulez, placez-les sur une plaque beurrée, passez dessus un peu de jaune d'œuf et mettez-les 10 minutes au four, à 200 C°.

Strasbourg (France)

Nearly 200 kilometers from Luxembourg, you'll find Strasbourg, a pretty town of Alsace. Snow added to the magical atmosphere of Christmas.


My favourite place was the area called "Petite France": there, I found the Christmas decorations nicer, glühwein was less expensive, and bredele, those traditional Alsatian Chritsmas biscuits, definitely very tasty.

KIOSK

There is a special spot in Luxembourg, at "Place de Bruxelles", I wanted to present you.


At first sight, this looks like a simple kiosk. Actually, it used to be one. Its name is "kiosk" or the "project kiosk" though, but it is designed to shelter a temporary artistic installation. The current one is from Isabelle Marmann, and it called "le vent picotait mes joues", i.e., "the wind stang my cheeks" (and the wind in Luxembourg is actually doing so). You have until February 17th, 2010 to get the chance to see it. Next, another artist will take the place. And so on.

A pure instant of poetry at the chore of the city.

Rennes (France)

From Luxembourg, you'll need to drive a bit more than 700 kilometers to reach Rennes, a great town of Brittanny, in France, but it does worth it.

I was there last week-end, during the so-called "Transmusicales"..but, shame on me, I was too tired to attend to a concert.


Yet, I had fun walking around the city, so let's have a walk together! Here comes a detail from the Parliament of Brittanny..Yes, here people value designation of things in Breton.



If you are in town on a Saturday, you absolutely have a look at the market which is taking "Place des Lices", this is one of the biggest, if not the biggest. This is a pretty place with, among other things, the "Hôtel des ventes" building, where auctions take place.



At "Place des Lices" you may see characteristic houses from Britanny. You'll also find them at "Place du Champ Jacquet".


When one mentions Brittanny, words like "chouchen", "kouign amann", "crêpes" should pop up in you head. Rennes is full of those "crêperies", those restaurants where you'll enjoy "crêpes" (sort of pancakes) with a bowl of cider, mmhh!


I also really enjoyed seeing this carousel again,at "Place St Anne", so "Royal de Luxe" like, or close to the atmosphere of Jean-Pierre Jeunet's movies.

Christmas is coming soon and Copenhagen is showing it.

Tivoli, the local permanent amusement park, has its christmas light on.

Rådhuspladsen, Copenhagen's town square, has installed an "environmental friendly" christmas tree, as the electricity to light up the decorations is produced by people biking.

And at home, we made "konfekt" which are danish christmas sweets made of marcipan, chocolate and walnuts from... Grenoble! found in the local supermarket :)

Et à la maison, on a fait des "konfket" qui sont des sucreries danoises de noël, faites de pâtes d'amende, de chocolat et de noix... de Grenoble! trouvées au supermarché du coin :)

Well well, the last month of the year started today… 1st of December means several things. It means that winter is now here for good, it also means that we are over swamped with projects that must soon be ended over, but it also means that advent calendars have be started!

Et bien voilà, le dernier mois de l’année vient de commencer... Le 1er décembre représente plusieurs choses. Le 1er décembre veut dire que l’hiver est maintenant bien installé, ca veut également dire qu’on est tous surchargés de projets dus avant la fin de l’année; mais le 1er décembre veut surtout dire que les calendriers de l’avent ont pu être commencés!

Danes are very much into Christmas traditions and therefore very much into advent calenders. When in France, advent calendars are mainly with chocolates and for kids, in Denmark, advent calendars are also for adults and a lot of options are offered.

Les danois tiennent énormément aux traditions de noel, et sont donc très intéressés par les calendriers de l’avent. Alors qu’en France cette tradition est principalement "au chocolat" et pour les enfants, au Danemark, les adultes joignent la tradition et differentes options sont offertes.

So from today, Danes can eat their 1st chocolate or open the first little present. But they can also scratch the first box of the advent-lottery – charity lottery please – or burn the beginning of the “advent-candel.”

Donc, à partir d’aujourd’hui, les Danois ont pu manger leur premier chocolat ou ouvrir leur premier petit cadeau. Mais ils ont également pu gratter la première case de la “lotterie de l’avent” – lotterie charitative s’il vous plait – ou bruler le début de la “bougie de l’avent”
